Writing a Book in a Month is Easy

Never ever allow anyone to determine your outcome in life, no matter what. In my case I informed family members and friends of my interest in writing my first book and I learned that they did not have confidence in my abilities to write a book nor faith in their own abilities.

There was only one question for me to ask some of my detractors. “Why do you think I do not have the ability to write a book?” One comment was, “You have never written a book before. Another comment was, I do not know.”

I made up my mind to write my book in one month and during that period of time there was upheaval in my personal life. I am writing this to encourage you to set a goal of writing your first and or next book in one month.

The first thing for you to do is make an assessment of what your book is going to be about, the topic or central theme of your book. I suggest you find at least two model books to use as a guide because it will literally create the vision for your book.

I was fortunate to meet Dan Poynter at a National Speakers Association meeting and he autographed his amazing book, The Self-Publishing Manual: How to Write, Print and Sell Your Own Book. The Self-Publishing Manual is an excellent tool to guide you through the book writing and publishing process.

After you determine the central theme of your book, there is only one thing left to do. Start writing your book.

When I wrote my book, Living on Higher Ground: How to live with passion, motivation and joy, I had never written a book before. I reviewed my two model books in-depth, then I read The Self-Publishing Manual and I was on my way.

On day one I decided to write a chapter a day and I stuck to my guns by not wavering. I had to conduct research because it had been several decades since I experienced some of the events that occurred in my life, in order to provide an accurate account of my story it was imperative to conduct research.

Ironically after looking at my birth certificate I was born at 3:00am in the morning. Every morning at 3:00am I woke up and started writing another chapter in my book.

Did I have days I could not write? The answer to that question is absolutely, but what I did to compensate for writers block was to check for typos, edit the chapters I had completed and proofread my work.

After completing the first draft of my book, I hired a cover design expert, book interior designer and editing expert, copy expert and a book printing contractor. All in all, writing my first book was one of the most exciting and therapeutic experiences I have ever had.

Writing a book is really about taking on a personal challenge and seeing it through to fruition. My last recommendation to you is to go for it, if I did it, so can you.
